Sunnyside Living

Mallee Accommodation & Support Program partnered with the Victorian government to build 13 one-bedroom homes at the site, with construction work undertaken by CNB Constructions and project management provided by Johnstaff.

The $2.5 million development was completed at the end of January 2024 and significantly boosts the amount of social housing available in Mildura while also allowing vulnerable people to benefit from stable accommodation.

Tenants can also access holistic, wraparound MASP services – such as our homelessness and family violence support – to help address their barriers, aligning with MASP’s Therapeutic Model of Care.

The Sunnyside Living project:

  • Increases the supply of long-term affordable housing available for low-income or disadvantaged persons. We estimate an additional 14,235 bed nights per year will be achieved.
  • Increases the supply of new single accommodation.
  • Supports the development of environmentally sustainable community housing that will reduce operating costs and utility bills, increase thermal comfort, improve liveability and health outcomes for low-income tenants, and help demonstrate the long-term business case of building to a higher sustainability standard.

DESIGN:

The units are fully self-contained with bedroom, lounge, bathroom, kitchen, and a secure private small backyard.

Crucial to the extreme hot weather environment in Mildura is that each unit has reverse cycle air-conditioning.

Within a two-kilometre radius of the housing there are all necessary community services, including Sunraysia Community Health Service, Mildura Base Hospital, MASP, Centrelink, as well as supermarkets, chemist, and public open spaces.
