Mallee Accommodation and Support Program is developing a major project in Mildura supporting people to break the cycle of homelessness.
Work is progressing solidly on a $2.5 million development on Sunnyside Avenue in Mildura, which has been supported by the Victorian Property Fund.
Mallee Accommodation Support Program is partnering with the Victorian government to build 13 one-bedroom homes at the site with construction work to be undertaken by CNB Constructions.
“Delivering this development has been a long-term goal for our organisation and it’s such a thrill to see work get started,” MASP’s Board Chair Caroline Smith said. “These units will boost the amount of social housing available in Mildura, while also giving vulnerable people an opportunity to benefit from stable accommodation.”
Tenants will also be able to access holistic, wraparound MASP services – such as our homelessness and family violence support – to help address the barriers they face.
“We know housing stress and homelessness are growing concerns across the region, and a project like this will support those who are doing it tough,” MASP chief executive Vincent Wilson said. “MASP is extremely thankful for the Victorian government’s support and the backing of our community partners, making this project a reality. We are also hugely grateful to all the MASP staff, past and present, who contributed to developing this plan and helping to bring it to fruition.”
It is expected the new homes will be ready by late-2023.
Last year, MASP published its new Strategic Plan 2022-2025, outlining how the organisation will improve how it serves people across the Mallee.
The Strategy was built around MASP’s ‘CARES’ values of Connected, Accountable, Responsive, Empowering and Safe.
The Sunnyside Avenue project ties into the aims of the Strategic Plan, supporting individuals and families to lead safe, secure, healthy, and fulfilling lives.
