MASP is seeking suitable “Lead Tenants” for a new program aimed at helping young people transition from Out Of Home Care.
The Lead Tenant Program is a two-year program that provides tailored support to vulnerable young people aged 16-18 who are unable to live with their families and are subject to statutory orders under the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 to live in a semi-independent living arrangement where young people reside alongside a live-in volunteer Lead Tenant.
The aim of the program is to provide a safe, stable, caring, trauma informed and supportive living environment in which young people can develop and practice independent living skills in a shared and supported environment, without the direct care of a residential or foster carer.
The Lead Tenant will be provided housing with free rent and utilities to reside with up to two young people transitioning out of care situations from the age of 16 until they turn 18, providing direction, encouragement and support within the household.
“Our Lead Tenants will act as positive role models and assist the young people in the house to develop independent living skills, such as cooking and cleaning, budgeting and more broadly how to be a good tenant,” MASP Director of Client Services Greg Robinson said.
“We also expect the Lead Tenants to demonstrate a positive and balanced lifestyle and be engaged in some form of employment, study or training. They are also required to participate equally in domestic chores and duties and to ensure that any conflicts arising within the household are dealt with in a positive and productive manner.”
MASP Lead Tenants will be required to hold a National Police Check and a Working With Children Check. MASP will provide Lead Tenants with 24-hour on-call support under the program.
