MASP Office got covered in rainbows when joining the WorldPride 2023 celebrations

24 February 2023Daniel KellyStories

As Sydney World Pride officially kicks off its celebrations, our team at MASP gathered today to get into the spirit of this event despite the distance.

Historically, WorldPride has been operating for over 40 years with a mission to promote and advocate LGBTQIA+ human rights worldwide.

As a global LGBTQIA+ festival has been staged since 2000, and luckily for us, Sydney was chosen to host WorldPride in 2023, marking the first time a city in the southern hemisphere had been chosen.

This year is also unique because Sydney WorldPride and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) are joining together and will operate as one event. SGLMG produces events and initiatives annually that celebrate LGBTQIA+ identity and provide a platform for communities to share with the world.

We are thrilled to be part of these glittering, inclusive, and joyous celebrations demonstrating how much as a community we have achieved over the years.

Our very own Equity Diversity & Inclusion Committee (EDI) prepared home-baked cupcakes symbolising the colours of LGBTQIA. We covered our offices in rainbow flags to raise awareness, and together, we can learn how to become good allies of the LGBTQIA+ community. It may not be a grand celebration yet, but every small step forward is a move in the right direction.

We at MASP are committed to supporting and empowering all communities to be free from disadvantage. We look forward to soaking up the next couple of days full of incredible events that celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, and we encourage everyone to join us.

MASP Acknowledges and respects the traditional owners of this country. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and celebrate and respect their continuing culture and acknowledge the members of their ancestors.
