Mallee Accommodation and Support Program (MASP) has completed six new housing units in Mildura’s CBD to house and support rough sleepers.
The new development, named Doug’s Place in honour of MASP’s founding CEO Doug Tonge, was built in partnership with the Victorian Government under the $26 million Regional Supportive Housing Program – the first permanent supportive housing program of its kind in Regional Victoria.
Five of the one-bedroom units at Doug’s Place will house clients identified through MASP’s Assertive Outreach program, with remaining to serve as a staffed support hub. Through this model, MASP’s Senior Intensive Housing Case Manager will work with clients to ensure they are able to access the services they need to get on with their lives.
“MASP is proud to have been able to work with the Victorian Government to achieve this fantastic outcome for our community,” MASP CEO Charmaine Calis said.
“Since 2024 our Assertive Outreach Program has made a real difference for those experiencing the rawest for of homelessness – those sleeping on the streets, in shop alcoves or in makeshift camps near the river. Now we can offer some of these people long term housing where they can have some stability and normality.”
MASP thanked local builders 808 Construction for their work on the units.
