Imagine finally moving into your own place after living on the streets or couch surfing with just the clothes on your back and maybe a few personal items.
This is the reality for many of those who have experienced homelessness around the nation.
For Homelessness Week, which started today, Mallee Accommodation & Support Program (MASP) is calling on the community to donate essential household items to those less fortunate.
MASP Manager – Homelessness Support Trevor Gibbs said these items would go a long way towards helping someone set up their home. These items can be placed in the donation bin in front of Target at Mildura Central all week, while MASP staff will also hold a stall in front of the same location on Friday from 10am-4pm.
“Something as simple as a kettle, toaster, cutlery, bedding, cleaning, personal hygiene and essential pantry items – it all makes a difference,” Mr Gibbs said.
“This drive will directly benefit those who need support, while also building awareness of the issues in our community.”
Please note due to hygiene and safety issues MASP cannot accept second-hand items. Monetary donations can also be directly made year-round to MASP’s programs via https://masp.org.au/get-involved/donate-and-fundraise-for-masp/
Also on Friday MASP, in conjunction with RIVER1467AM radio, will conduct a money line at Mildura Central – encouraging shoppers to leave their spare change as a donation to MASP’s Homelessness Support Fund.
Damion Bradshaw and the RIVER1467 team will broadcast live on location alongside MASP’s stall throughout Friday afternoon.
