Mallee Accommodation and Support Program (MASP) will support young people in the Mildura region to gain supervised driving experience as the regional provider for the TAC L2P Program from October 1.
The free program, which has been delivered in Sunraysia by Sunassist for the past 15 years, matches eligible learner drivers with trained, fully licensed volunteer mentors and provides access to an L2P vehicle so participants can build their skills, confidence and safe driving experience.
“Being able to drive opens so many doors,” MASP CEO Charmaine Calis said. “It can mean the difference between accepting a job, continuing education, attending appointments, or simply feeling connected to your community. A licence creates opportunities and independence, and we are excited to help more young people achieve that milestone.”
The program is available to eligible learner drivers aged 16 to 21 years — and, in some circumstances, up to 23 years — who hold a Victorian learner permit and do not have access to a safe supervising driver or vehicle.
MASP is also inviting community members to enquire about becoming volunteer mentors. Mentors must be over 21, hold a current full Australian driver licence and complete the program’s required screening and training.
Young people, families and prospective mentors can contact MASP on 03 5021 6500 for more information or go to Children, Youth & Families – MASP
The TAC L2P Program is funded by the Transport Accident Commission, administered by the Department of Transport and Planning, and delivered by local councils and non-profit community organisations across Victoria.
