Mallee Accommodation & Support Program (MASP) welcomes the Victorian Government’s 2051 draft housing targets across Mallee.
Under the plan announced by Premier Jacinta Allan the Mildura LGA is targeted for 8000 new homes, Swan Hill is targeting 1500, Ganawarra Shire 800 and Buloke Shire 100.
MASP Acting CEO Charmaine Calis said the Government’s targets signalled a positive move for the Mallee.
“Getting more houses in the market would have a net positive impact on availability in not only regional Victoria but also in our Far West NSW communities whose main services are Victoria-based,” Mrs Calis said.
“However, we acknowledge the immediate need for solutions to meet community needs and this is something we will continue to advocate for and work with funding partners such as the Victorian Government to provide.
“MASP also recognises homelessness goes beyond simply buildings alone and we remain committed to not only provide social housing solutions but also to empower the community to be free from homelessness, abuse, poverty and disadvantage.”
