Mallee Accommodation & Support Program (MASP) will build six one-bedroom units in Mildura’s CBD to house and support rough sleepers after securing Homes Victoria funding under the Regional Supportive Housing Program.
MASP Acting CEO Charmaine Calis said the State Government funding, combined with MASP’s own contribution, will allow MASP to house clients that are currently sleeping in public spaces, streets, parks and makeshift shelters.
“This funding is a significant win for MASP and for those experiencing homelessness in Mildura and surrounds,” Mrs Calis said.
“These clients face complex challenges that have led to their homelessness, they are some of our most vulnerable clients and these units will go a long way towards providing some stability and safety.”
Each unit will be fully self-contained and will include private open space, car parking and energy efficient electrical appliances and heating/cooling, while two units have been identified as accessible units with associated disability parking and modified interior design.
“This project will complement MASP’s recently established Assertive Outreach Program which identifies and supports rough sleepers in the Mildura area,” Mrs Calis said.
“MASP will also be providing ongoing case management for the residents of these units to provide a responsive, trauma-informed and tailored support service.”
